Awesome and Bombdiggity Canvas - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi lovelies!  Today I have a canvas to share with you!

The quote on here is one that makes me smile each time I see it pop up somewhere on social media, it's just so happy!

I've had fun with this grungy style background... book paper layers, stencilled pattern and loads of earthy colour.   First I've torn pages from an old book and adhered them with a matt gel medium.  I've then added some iddy hearts stencilled with a mini stencil and texture paste and overlayed some of Donna's new Burlap Ribbon and Lace Ribbon from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  This too was adhered with gel medium.

The butterflies were cut out of denim offcuts using Donna's Wonderful Wings Die by Spellbinders.  These were adhered with gel medium and once all dried, layers of colours were added.  I've used Clearsnap's Mix'd Media Inx in Truffle, Honey, Denim and Indigo, as well as Smooch Spritz in Caramel Latte, Pralines & Cream and Sea Breeze.

These little scrolls are fabulous!  They are Donna's new 3D Foam Swirls from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  So very practical and easy to use!  I've sprinkled Clearsnap Twinkle Dust Glitter in Pralines & Cream onto them, and then used iddy drops of Mix'd Media Inx Reinkers in Denim and Indigo to add deeper colour.

I've made my wild roses using Donna's Rose Creations Die, this time I've cut a couple from plain white cardstock and then coloured them afterwards.  One with Pralines & Cream Smooch Spritz and the other with a watered down mix of River Mossy and Ice Rink   The Smooch Spritzes blend well!  I've touched the edges with Truffle Mix'd Media Inx.

And I've also cut some smaller flowers from some of Donna's patterned papers I still have in my stash using her Bitty Blossoms Die.  And finally, after all these years, I can almost make them as fast as Donna can in slow motion LOL!!

I decided to add some interest to the edges of the canvas as well so have used larger chipboard letters to spell out Awesome & Bombdiggity up the sides and across the top... just something unexpected, like the quote is itself!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you've like my canvas today... and I hope the little quote made you smile like it does me!

Remember Jar 2015 - Donna Salazar Design - CHA Jan 2015

Hi lovelies!

What's the next best thing for a scrapbooker to being at CHA?  Being able to showcase NEW stuff that's being launched at CHA!!

Donna has some fabulous NEW stuff happening with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, these tied in with all her other goodies we know and love, it's like a match match in scrappy heaven!

Today I have this "Remember" Jar to share with you.  I made this to pop little notes of positive things  that have happened over the course of the year into.  Then at the beginning of 2016, we read through them.  Like a reverse resolution!  We'll see all the wonderful things we did achieve, no matter how small, instead of making a New Years Resolution and failing it before January is even finished like we often do!  I saw the idea on Pinterest ages ago, but it wasn't until I saw that a childhood friend of mine had posted on Facebook hers that she actually did for 2014!  Thanks Tanya for the unintentional reminder that I wanted to do this 'one day'!!

I've got all sorts of Donna Salazar Designs goodies on here!  The fabulous NEW bits are all available from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L... and guess what, not all of them are adhesive things, there's textiles, yep!  There's Lace Ribbons, Denim Sheets & Canvas Flags, Organza Ribbon, Burlap Ribbon, Denim Books and even Pigments, as well as some fabulous adhesive items that Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L do so very well.  Was I excited much, oh yes!!

My base started with this fabulous NEW Burlap Ribbon - OMG squeal right?  Even just as is, not altered, it's all kinds of awesomeness.  Why...  because it doesn't fray and fall apart at the edges, they've been stitched for you to prevent that happening.  Of course, if you wanted it all frayed, then you can easily trim into it and get that happening.  I then over-layed a piece of NEW Lace Ribbon, these come with 2 kinds in a pack and are this lovely creamy colour, perfect for girlie grunge styling!!

The next piece of deliciousness is this NEW Organza Ribbon, it comes packaged with the Burlap Ribbon... I love that match of rough versus soft and delicate.  I've used it simply here, just tied to create a lovely elegant bow.  I've kept the design quite simple, instead of covering the whole jar with grungy textures and colours, as I wanted to see the notes it put in there grow over the year!

Not many OTP things I create get to wander off without a butterfly somewhere!  Below I've cut a butterfly in canvas using Donna's Wonderful Wings Die by Spellbinders, love that die.

And I've made some wild roses using Donna's Rose Creations Die and some of her lovely paper from her Spring in Bloom collection.  The smaller flowers were cut from Donna's Bitty Blossoms die,  Once assembled and dried the little flower was sprayed with Donna's WoodStain Smooch Spritz from Clearsnap and one of the larger flowers was misted with a blend of River Mossy and Ice Rink.  The Smooch Spritzes blend beautifully!

Lastly I made an iddy tag cut from some of Donna's cute Creative Cards design from Clearsnap.  This was sprayed with some of the River Mossy and Ice Rink blend and then the edges were distressed and inked with Stormy Mix'd Media Inx.

Thanks for stopping in today, I hope you've liked my little Remember Jar!  Keep checking back here for more cool CHA samples... there's some stunners coming though as well as some fabulous work from our Mixed Media Maven herself!  Much excitement!!

Creative Kitty Layout - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone!  Today I have a fun, messy style layout to share with you.   I'm playing around trying some new {to me} things and I really love the messy mixed media backgrounds that are becoming popular, but I still want to make them 'me'.

One way to keep things 'me' is to still incorporate my love of handmade elements and the fabulous texture of fabrics.  I'm loving the look so far!

Click on the Image for a larger view

Today I have used Donna's "Dear Sir" Stamp in the very background using Midnight Mix'd Media Inx Chox and made sure it was thoroughly dry {quick zap with a heat tool for the Chox and it's all good} before adding a very thin layer of gesso in random spots.  After this I've added pattern with a stencil using Texture Paste.  Once it all dried I had fun spraying SmoochSpritz inks and let them run!  I've used Caramel Latte SmoochSpritz and then to get the grey tone colour, I've mixed some Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx Re-inker, Water, WoodStain and IceRink SmoochSpritz to get a lighter tone.  For the ink 'splatters' I used Truffle Mix'd Media Ink Re-Inker with some water to create my own flat colour spray.

I've created a ruffle {yep, I'm still very much in love with my ruffles} and a Worn Rose using Donna's Rose Creations Die from Spellbinders.  You can find a tutorial link on my blog for the Worn Rose HERE.  I love these roses, they almost sit flat... well flat for me, but have such wonderful impact.  I'm not too sure what I'd do without Donn'a fabulous Flower Dies because nothing beats having your very own hand-made perfectly matched flower!

Thanks for stopping by again!  Don't forget to check out our latest Sketch-n-Color inspiration challenge... you can find it on the blog HERE.

Free to be Me... Reverse Canvas - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi lovelies!

Today I have a mixed media canvas to share with you, using one of my favourite of Donna Salazar Designs chippy pieces, Bonnie's Birdcage

I used the reverse of a deep frame art canvas to create my background and simple scrunched up some printed tissue paper and adhered it with glue'n'seal.  Then I popped it into a spray box and hit it with Smooch Spritz in Green Olive, Caramel Latte and Spun Sugar.  The lace in the background was hand dyed using Smooch Spritz Caramel Latte... these colours are so very versatile!

I made a couple of Worn Roses using Spellbinders Rose Creations Die, the metallic sheen was simply some metallic rub swept over the flower once it was dried.  You can download a tutorial for these roses HERE.

The cage itself was first painted with white spray paint and then inked with Mossy, Honey and Stormy Mix'd Media Inx.  These were blended as I worked to create a soft worn effect.
The chipboard alphas from GCD Studios were simply sprayed with Smooch Spritz to match the background colours.

Then all it needed was a cute little bird popping out from the cage!  It needed something to perch on so I went outside and picked up some twigs and dried grasses that the hot summer weather left for me.

Thanks for popping by today!

Balance - Mixed Media Canvas - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone!

I found a canvas in the boot of my car the other day {it's pretty scary in there, I'm always losing things} and I loved the long shape of this one, it was just enough to spark my mixed media mojo back into action!  And so I grabbed out all my mediums, my fave Donna Salazar goodies and played... here's the result!

I ripped up some papers from Donna's Natural Beauty collection and glued them to the canvas, and then overlaid some torn and scrunched up dictionary papers from Donna's Mix'd Media Stax 2 and glued these down also to create a collage style background.

Next I adhered an old doily and a couple of chipboard shapes from Want 2 Scrap, then using Donna's large Heart Stencil from Want 2 Scrap created the heart patterns in the top left and bottom right corners.  I also added some interesting texture mediums I have, such as resin sand and opaque flakes.

Once dried, I then spritzed on the colour, River Mossy and Ice Rink Smooch Spritz as well as some Peaches Mix'd Media Ink straight from the refill bottle.  I sprayed it all with water to allow the colours to run.  To help highlight the textures further I added some platinum metallic rub over the canvas.  Then it was time to embellish!!

The title was added using GCD Chipboard Alpha Stickers and some printed text. The colour was added using Mix'd Media Inx and softened by spraying lightly with water.

I cut and rolled some bitty blossoms using various papers from Donna's 6x6 paper pads. The flower petals were touched with Glue Gloss and then sprinkled with Fairy Dust Glitter for added shimmer!

I also cut a butterfly from with Donna's Wonderful Wings die, and overlaid it with some Wonderful Wings Bling from Want 2 Scrap.  I scattered some glass pebbles through the canvas and finished it all off with a matching satin bow.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Until next time take care of you!

Precious - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone!  Today I have a simple little layout to share with you, all in lovely blue/grey tones.  These are my parents, they've known each other since they were 5 years old... that's quite precious!

Today I have used papers from Donna's Natural Beauty collection.  I love the blue grey tones in this set, so lovely!   The paper edges were distressed with the Distrezz-It-All, making what would be a clean neat layout just that little bit grungier.  It adds such wonderful visual texture to the layers, without adding too much bulk or weight.

Instead of making flowers for this, I've hand cut a few love hearts from some canvas and spritzed them randomly with Sea Breeze and Ice Rink Smooch Spritz.

I've added some little 'sparklets' to add a little random bling to the page.

The "precious" was cut from the Family Jeans cut out sheet and used as the base for a title - it's so handy that a lot of Donna's collections can work seamlessly with other collections!

Thanks so much for popping in today!!

Doesn't Need to be Perfect - Mixed Media - Green Tara

Here's another I created with Michelle... she challenged me to created something on a wood base, which was fun!

The background was created with many layers of corrugated board, patterned papers, tissue paper, doilies and whatever other bits and pieces that were handy.  This was covered with a thin layer of texture paste to help smooth all the layers.  The Dusty Attic chipboard {aside from the dress forme} was added raw, along with some muslin and then sprayed with layers of smooch spritz colour sprays.  Once dried it was accented with inka-gold rub, the title added and then more smooch spritz added.

The dress forme was painted white and then 'dressed' with one of my ruffles.  I've created 'skirts' with the ruffles before, but got the idea to make a matching 'corset' from a lovely girl named Susan who was at Michelle's workshop... such a fabulous idea {and such a talented young lady}!

Then the fun part... adding a spray of flowers to accent the dress forme.  Adding flowers is always the fun part!!

I have used mostly white flowers, withe one peach one to tie it in with the background.

The flat white petals made a beautiful backdrop for the dress form, helping it not blend in too much with the complex background.  Using clusters of Primulas, Cherry Blossoms and Roses helps continue the flow, embracing the Camellia nestled among them.

The final coat of Cashmere Smooch Spritz added such a beautiful tone to the background.  The chipboard was bought to life with the inks-gold rubs... they add such beautiful visual texture.

Hope Sings - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi lovelies!   Today I have a little 8x10 canvas to share with you using lots of wonderful Donna Salazar goodies...
[click image for a larger view]

I have used a Zutter Canvas Artboard as the base, they are fabulously rigid with a MDF backing, perfect for collage and stencilling.  I have torn some sections from the dictionary print paper in the Mixed Media Stax 2 and adhered them to the background, as well as some Clouds from the Fun & Funky CutOut Sheet and strips torn from some Natural Beauty papers.

I've then used Donna's Heart Stencil from Want 2 Scrap with some texture paste and added some more texture paste to create the background.  The Bonnie's Bird Cage and Hand Drawn Swirls Chipboard from Want 2 Scrap were spray painted white and then adhered to the canvas.  The cage part of the chippy was slightly curved before adding to the base to give it some depth, and some open weave muslin drapped in through the open cage door.   Once glued down the whole canvas was sprayed with loads of Smooch Spritz.  Mixed Berries, then Caramel Latte, Sea Breeze, a little River Mossy and Green Olive.  I allowed the colours to run and blend...

The printed quote was coloured using the smooch colours that dripped into the colour catcher, as were the GCD Chipboard Alpha Stickers.  Finally the chain and the little bird embellishment were added and the texture picked up with some metallic rub to finish it off.

I love the gorgeous shimmers this shows in the light, with so much colour sprayed onto it, all the mica adds the most beautiful subtle effect!

Thanks for visiting today!
