Free to be Me... Reverse Canvas - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi lovelies!

Today I have a mixed media canvas to share with you, using one of my favourite of Donna Salazar Designs chippy pieces, Bonnie's Birdcage

I used the reverse of a deep frame art canvas to create my background and simple scrunched up some printed tissue paper and adhered it with glue'n'seal.  Then I popped it into a spray box and hit it with Smooch Spritz in Green Olive, Caramel Latte and Spun Sugar.  The lace in the background was hand dyed using Smooch Spritz Caramel Latte... these colours are so very versatile!

I made a couple of Worn Roses using Spellbinders Rose Creations Die, the metallic sheen was simply some metallic rub swept over the flower once it was dried.  You can download a tutorial for these roses HERE.

The cage itself was first painted with white spray paint and then inked with Mossy, Honey and Stormy Mix'd Media Inx.  These were blended as I worked to create a soft worn effect.
The chipboard alphas from GCD Studios were simply sprayed with Smooch Spritz to match the background colours.

Then all it needed was a cute little bird popping out from the cage!  It needed something to perch on so I went outside and picked up some twigs and dried grasses that the hot summer weather left for me.

Thanks for popping by today!

Believe - Australian Scrapbook Ideas #25

Today I have a favourite from Issue #25 of Australian Scrapbook Ideas, this one is of my beautiful god-daughter.

She's such a photogenic girl, and I love that Facebook makes it easy to keep in touch, visually as well as 'writtenly' {LOL yes I know that's not a word}.  It allows me to nick photos she puts on her timeline so I can have a girly scrap fix!

This article was all about using UTEE... one of my favourite embossing powders.  It's always served me well with the things I put it through on chipboard, but this feature helped me discover all the other wondrous things I could do with it!

The little grey flower above is made from UTEE... how cool!

And this chipboard was dressed with layers of inks and UTEE - there are Step by Step visuals on how to do this in the magazine.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope that you find inspiration here... for more fabulous layouts, with step by step instructions, pick up a copy of Australian Scrapbook Ideas at participating newsagents, or you can subscribe online HERE so you'll never miss an issue!

Christmas Blessings - Australian Scrapbook Ideas #24

I am so far behind 'sharing' all my work I have been doing!  I am forgiving myself though... but it's time to get back into it and start sharing with you all... so over the next few weeks I'll be catching up with my Australian Scrapbook Ideas commissioned articles as well as my Project Life pages.

Here's one from Issue #24 of Australian Scrapbook Ideas, there were a couple more in there, but this one I adore and want to share even though it's old now.  Those 2 cute little munchkins are Natasha's children - I just want to scoop them up in a big hug!   Thanks again for saving me with the perfect photos for this page!

This article was all about using gorgeous velvet, loved it!

For this layout I made cute little bows and stamp embossed some leaves.  There's a step by step visual "how to" for the stamp embossing in the magazine, it's so easy and so very effective.

I made a paper ruffle from glittery chevron paper - I really love how the chevron looks once 'ruffled'.

Purple Gift Box - Green Tara

Today I have to share with you my very last post as a member of the Green Tara Design Team. I decided to make a sweet little gift box topped with some beautiful flowers and my favourite ribbon.

I edged the lid of the box with Silver Diamante Trim, adding some elegance to the box and tying in the silver butterfly charm and foil pattern on the paper.

The lovely lavender and lilac tones worked so well together…

It has truly been an honour to have been a part of this wonderful team for the last few years… I still remember the absolute excitement when I received the phone call asking me to join the team.  It was a dream come true!  Thank you Alison and Di for everything, it has been a fabulous experience working with such quality products, and people!  xoxo

Tranquility - Green Tara

I started this layout wayyyy back in February this year… and I just couldn't quite get it happening.  This weekend gone I pulled it out again and it all came together so easily.  Just goes to show that sometimes it's best to just walk away and try again later!

The one part of the layout that was working for me were the Green Tara flowers.  I had chosen my favourite Cherry Blossoms, Sakura, flat Petals, Roses and a Moss Wild Rose.

The White Flower Lace Ribbon helped add just that little more white to balance the layout.  This lace is very versatile, it can be layered, used as is or cut up to add tiny accents.

Love These Two - Green Tara

Our gorgeous goddaughter stopped with us a few days on her way down south, and again on her way back home, and as always it was so wonderful to see her.  Unfortunately like all 16yo girls, trying to get a photo of her is near impossible, so when I get some they become my treasures!

This layout was a quick snap of Kel and her… Kel as always being a total goose, and Courtney trying her best to tolerate him.

I adore this Sage Satin Rosette, the colour is most divine and was perfect for the papers.  I felt the shape of it also would be a lovely compliment to the Sprightly Sprockets I've used on the layout.

The white flower clusters soften the sprocket clusters...

I have used the Flat Petals under the flowers and sprockets as it emulates the teeth on the cogs...

The "Love" is a wood veneer laser cut, I spray painted it white and then coated with with Fairy Dust Glitter.

New York Patina - Australian Scrapbook Ideas #21

Here's the last layout I have to share with you from Issue #21.  I adore this one... my FAVE sight of NY was the Statue of Liberty, but when I was looking through all the photos, my eye kept coming back to all the patina tones on the buildings as well... so stunning!

For this one I used some larger trinkets I found in my stash.  A lot of them were jewellery findings...

I even cut up some Green Tara Silver Diamante Trim to create my own little trinkets.

Jewellery findings such as brooch backs just all to have a little resin flower added to them...

And others can be easily cut and tucked in under layers.

The Last New Beginning - Australian Scrapbook Ideas #21

My next layout featuring Trinkets is this Finnabair inspired one.  Well a very gentle form of her style anyway!  I've used some of her beautiful papers and her background stamping technique... and yeah that's about all.

I think I should never ever say "the last time" or "always and forever" because the universe seems to see that and laugh at me.  I've put back on 6kg since I did this layout, but I am trying to get back on track... just sometimes there are so many easy excuses as to why not to!

So anyways... I've used some sweet little trinkets for this one, some little brass ones, some resin ones I cast myself and some sweet little dew drops.

I also created a little cluster of trinkets to sit as a flower center...

This one below is a FAVE mould of mine, from Moulds by Mel

Doesn't Need to be Perfect - Mixed Media - Green Tara

Here's another I created with Michelle... she challenged me to created something on a wood base, which was fun!

The background was created with many layers of corrugated board, patterned papers, tissue paper, doilies and whatever other bits and pieces that were handy.  This was covered with a thin layer of texture paste to help smooth all the layers.  The Dusty Attic chipboard {aside from the dress forme} was added raw, along with some muslin and then sprayed with layers of smooch spritz colour sprays.  Once dried it was accented with inka-gold rub, the title added and then more smooch spritz added.

The dress forme was painted white and then 'dressed' with one of my ruffles.  I've created 'skirts' with the ruffles before, but got the idea to make a matching 'corset' from a lovely girl named Susan who was at Michelle's workshop... such a fabulous idea {and such a talented young lady}!

Then the fun part... adding a spray of flowers to accent the dress forme.  Adding flowers is always the fun part!!

I have used mostly white flowers, withe one peach one to tie it in with the background.

The flat white petals made a beautiful backdrop for the dress form, helping it not blend in too much with the complex background.  Using clusters of Primulas, Cherry Blossoms and Roses helps continue the flow, embracing the Camellia nestled among them.

The final coat of Cashmere Smooch Spritz added such a beautiful tone to the background.  The chipboard was bought to life with the inks-gold rubs... they add such beautiful visual texture.
