Family First Bird House - Green Tara

I had a wonderful collection of Pink flowers left on my desk from when I created yesterday's layout, so thought I'd create a cute little OTP Bird House from Dusty Attic with them.

This gorgeous silver charm is from Handmade Halo... it was made for this I'm sure!

This time I have used one of Green Tara's PinCushion Flowers as well and popped a Primula in the centre.  I carefully removed the beaded centre so the Primula would sit flat.  The cute centre will create a nice embie on it's own so I've put that away for later.

I trimmed some of the Lace to create a little 'eave' border on the house.   This lace is really versatile and if trimmed can hold it's shape.

Finally I finished the Bird House off with a Polka Dot Organza bow.  This organza is so soft and delicate, it adds that sweet gentleness to girly work!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

Best Friend - Donna Salazar Designs

[click the image for a larger view]

Hi everyone! Natasha and I have been playing together again... this time I chose the papers.  Natasha said "lets play with colours different to our norm"... and in walked Fun and Funky!!  And they lived up to their name... they were FUN!

This is the sketch we used, from Scrapfriends, we loved the arty look of it - so many possibilities!

I used some of the new Alphas from GCD and inked them with Mix'd Media Inx Chox.

I used some of Donna's Sprockets and left them raw, and simply dry brushed some white gesso over them and the rest of the page.  I feel it helps all those bold colours and patterns blend together beautifully.

I cut a little tag from Canvas to add Kel and Coco's names and tied them onto the photo with Baker's Twine to match the stitching I have used on the layout.

Thanks for stopping by!

A Walk in the Park - Donna Salazar Designs

[click the image for a larger view]

Hi lovelies!  This is a layout I created with Natasha, we set a challenge to use the same papers and the same sketch to see what we'd come up with.

Here's the sketch we used:

[click on the image to visit Sketch Savvy]

I have created some deep layers on this one, building up the matts under the photo with chipboard offcuts so they were level with the grungy ruffle I created.

This beautiful satin rosette flower was the perfect shade for the green and blue hue of Donna's papers, and a bow from natural jute ribbon accented the natural tones of the layout.

Below is a view of the depth created, and the fabulous grungy ruffle.  These papers worked well for wet distressing, they tattered just the right amount without falling apart.

Here's how I created the ruffle:

You'll need some offcut strips, about 2 inches wide, double sided tape, fast drying PVA glue and a water mister.  Plus a narrow offcut for the reverse and punched border or lace trim for the front.

Spray the strips with water so they are quite damp.

Then scrunch them up and unravel...

Use some tape on the reverse and gather into random messy ruffles.

Like shown here...

The tape will just hold it long enough to finish... keep adding ruffles until you have the length you need.

Remove the carrier strip of the double sided tape and add a strip of glue to the reverse.  The glue will help the ruffles adhere better while wet.

Attach a strip of paper offcut to the reverse to hold the ruffles in place.

Then add a punched border, piece of ribbon or trim to hide the top of the ruffled edge and your grungy ruffle is finished!  The key to making this is not to be neat, don't worry about being precise, and let the edges get messed up and worn, it just adds to the grunginess!

Thanks for stopping by!  Until next time, take care.

Shine - Dusty Attic

Hi everyone!  Today I have a layout to share with you about my One Little Word for this year - SHINE.  It's more about finding sun-shine in my heart and life than "shining" creatively, but it doesn't hurt to add a bit of shine everywhere in my world LOL!

I found this fabulous paper in my stash with a Sunflower on it, I must have grabbed it ages ago because I don't recall buying it!  But the universe must have been speaking to me even then, because the sunflowers are my "shine" flowers!

What would be more perfect than to use Dusty's Sunflower Vine chippy!!   I have entiwined it with the Leafy flourish to extend the sunflower and add some dimension.

They were both painted with Pesto Dusty in Colour Acrylic Paint and the sunflowers painted with Sunshine Dusty in Colour.  I then added some more Pesto from the centres to mimic the flower on the patterned paper.

The fine butterfly shown above was a brass charm, which I painted with Bisque Dusty in Colour Acrylic Paint, and then some metallic leaf added to give it shine.

I made some flowers with Spellbinders Rose Creations Die, with just white card stock so I could match the sunflowers.  They were sprayed with an ink mist and painted with ink also.

The Typewriter Font alphas were painted white and then inked with Vintage Mix'd Media Inx.  I added some metallic leaf {for extra shine} and then added a coat of Dusty's Clear Gloss Varnish.

The little resin flower was originally white, it was painted with Vintage, Mossy and Truffle Mix'd Media Inx.

I made a ruffle with some paper offcuts and trimmed it with some hessian trim I recycled from a card.  The cute little button I poured from white resin using a mould from Moulds by Mel... so so cute!  It was painted with Pesto and Bisque Dusty in Colour, with metallic leaf added, and as a finishing touch a pearl added in the centre.

Thanks for stopping by today!

My Life - Art Tags... One Word

Hi guys... Natasha and I decided we'd do some wordy arty taggy things, but we couldn't find anything online that was quite 'us' as we really wanted these tags to be about us, and our life as it is today.  And so... we made up our own, originally titled "My Life" Art Tags, clever huh!?!

We randomly spurted out a pile of word prompts {and some of them may be a bit 'different'}... and then put them all in a jar and we'll choose one each fortnight or so {or later, or sooner if we got bored}.  Then we play and make pretties about the word, and journal on the back... tell our story!

The plan is to post a new word on the 1st and 15th of each month {ok so I'm late on the first post... but it's still the 15th in the US!}, so if you want to play along too, just check back to either mine or Natasha's blog!  We'll add a list to the side bar so it's easy to see where we're up to... because, we're a bit random, that's just how we roll!

So here's our first word, although this one wasn't random, we thought we'd go with our "word" for the year, a good place to start as any.

Here's my tag...

and a random pic of a sunflower because it's pretty!

Thanks for visiting... we hope you'll feel inspired to play along with us!!

The Two of Us - Donna Salazar Designs

[click on the image for a larger view]

Hi beautiful people!!  Today I have a layout to share with you of my hubby and I {I know, 2 photos in the same month... we're lucky to get 2 a year!}  I was playing around with an app on my phone and loved this cyan filter, which was a great match for some of Donna's new papers!

I have made some wild roses using Donna's Rose Creations dies, and some cute little flowers with the Bitty Blossoms dies.  I've clustered them with ruffle layers, vintage lace, crocheted doilies, resin flowers and a sweet tulle bow.

Donna's new alphas from GCD are just the right size, and have uppercase as well as lowercase in the pack.

I've used some little chit chat stickers to create some journaling, and inked the edges with Driftwood Mix'd Media Inx Chox.  Alternatively you could print your journaling onto card stock and trim to individual words to get the same look, and have the exact words you need.

Thanks for visiting, until next time - take care of you!

Embrace Love ATC - Dusty Attic

February is the month of Lovin'... especially at Dusty Attic with our "Love" theme for February's ATC challenge!   This is my ATC... I've used some corrugated card for the back, and layered with some mini Chicken Wire, ATC Frame, mini Scrolls and sweet little love hearts.

I like to add tags to the back of my ATC's so I can hang them about my scrap room instead of putting them away in a folder... they all look so pretty!!

All the chipboard was painted white with Dusty in Colour Alabaster paint. The edges of the ATC Frame were then touched with Schoolhouse Mix'd Media Inx, and one heart was inked with solid colour.  The last heart was inked with Chiffon Mix'd Media Inx and then covered with Fairy Dust Glitter.

I hope you all have a lovely Valentine's Day and spend some time with someone who means the world to you, I know that I will be!
