Be Happy - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone... today I have a layout I created for Mandy of her sweet daughter Brooklyn!

When I printed the photo out, these Botanique and Spring in Bloom papers were a perfect match for the wall behind her, helping her gorgeous profile shine!

I have used some of Donna's Chipboard Swirls underneath the flower cluster and used some Wonderful Wings Bling over a butterfly cut from canvas using Donna's Wonderful Wings Die from Spellbinders.

And I stamped... again!  I'm loving Donna's new Mix'd Media Inx Chox, they dry instantly with such a beautiful velvety finish.  I have used Donna's 'Flowers' Stamp 1st with Driftwood Chox and then again, offset, with Sparrow Chox.  The 'Flowers' Stamp matches the Shadow Flowers Die beautifully.

This large flower was created using Donna's Grand Peony Die from Cardstock, and the edges inked with Wisteria Mix'd Media Inx.

Thanks for visiting!
I hope you have wonderful New Year celebrations, take care and stay safe, see you next year!

Art Journal Pages - Donna Salazar Designs

As promised, here are some of the pages I have created for my arty journal.   They are just 'play' pages so likely don't make much sense, but they're fun!!

For this one I've use modelling paste over a butterfly stencil and then made a mess on the right hand page with more modelling paste LOL!  I've added some Collections butterflies, german scrap, some words etc and then spritzed with River Mossy, Ice Rink and Caramel Latte Smooch Spritz, then added white paint, more spritz and yeah... just kept adding layers!

This one was fun...

I layed down some modelling paste, the right hand page below also had a stencil... although by the time I added everything it's hidden.  I've added Mix'd Media Inx in... ummmm ok, I actually can't remember what colours LOL!  I know there was chiffon and peaches... sorry, this is what happens when you just let go and play, you end up with a whole pile of mess on the desk and art forming in the middle of it!

I've sprayed some Smooch Spritz in Cosmic Pink and Tea Party, and let them drip together and into the grooves left from the stencil.  Then I thought I'd let some crackle accents run over it... although it added some wonderful gloss it didn't crackle, but that will likely be because the colours underneath were still wet.

I added some canvas butterflies cut using Donna's Wonderful Wings dies... because I love them, I'm thinking there will be a book filled with butterflies once this is done!  I decided to use the butterflies to help convey the message I've used on the page: "Be of use, Don't be used".  These were sprayed with Tea Party Smooch Spritz, the one on the left page had bling added to represent the bright and happy feeling that 'being of use' is to me.  I've covered the one on the right hand page with paint and smudged it to represent the tattered and frayed feeling you have when you realise you have been used and taken for granted.  Luckily for me, this doesn't happen often... I'm blessed having some wonderfully appreciative people around me!

I've added a Dusty Attic Picket Fence {an old favourite - yeah I know, all DA chippies are LOL} offcut to help create a 'scene' to the page because this one had so much space.  This was overlayed roughly with modelling paste and a paper doily, then spritzed with Tea Party Smooch Spritz and white paint.  I really love the rough look of this side of the spread!

All my pages are odd sizes, some small, some big, different positions, different paper stocks... I like the randomness, it helps fuel that arty side I'm trying to free.  I've found some quotes that have called to me over the last year and am using them to add to, or to kick start the pages I'm working on.  I'll be adding things that I love in here, my Donna Salazar inks, colours and papers, Dusty chippies, Green Tara ribbons and trims... anything that's flat enough and hiding in my 'left-over, put away later' basket!  So it will be a book of positive affirmations, happy colours and lots of wonderful play!!

Thanks for visiting, take care and be true to you!

Art Journal - Donna Salazar Designs

Hi everyone!   Just a little one to share with you today, it's simple but I felt it didn't need much more on it.  I wanted to created something a little grungy {because I simply had to use the NEW Mix'd Media Inx colour, Adobe} so thought a little Art Journal would be cool.  Just a 5x7 one with a few pages inside that I can use to experiment and play!

I have used Zutter Corrugated Board Covers, and for the front cover, torn away the covering layer to reveal the corrugation.  I've used Manilla and Watercolour Paper from the Mix'd Media Stax for the inner pages and then bound them with my Bind It All.  The ring size was a little larger than required so it would allow for 'bits' the be added to the inside pages later.

On the solid bits that were left I have used modelling paste and Mix'd Media Inx ReInkers to create my grungy background.  I've done the same on the Want 2 Scrap Sprightly Sprockets Chipboard.
{I have a little step by step at the end of this post to show you how I did it}

I created a flower using some cardstock and Donna's Rose Creation Die.  The cardstock wasn't quite the right colour so I added a couple of drops of Patina Mix'd Media Inx ReInker into a spray bottle and sprayed more colour onto it.  Once dry I dabbed it with some white paint to add detail.

Last, I added a simple title using some Dusty Attic chipboard words.  I painted these in a simple white so they'd stand out.

And that's it... until I play on the inside!  I'll share some of those as I create them.

Here's how I've created the background.  You will need:

5x7 Zutter Corrugated Board Covers
Modelling Paste {or Texture Paste}
Clearsnap Mix'd Media Inx ReInkers - Patina and Adobe
Clearsnap Smooch Spritz - GingerAle
Palette Knife, Water Mister, Heat Gun

Tear away some of the covering layer on one side of a Zutter Cover.
Using a palette knife smooth a fine coat of modelling paste over solid areas that may remain, leaving the corrugations showing through.
Add a couple of drops of Mix'd Media Inx Adobe ReInker.

Spread the ink over the modelling paste, allowing it to blend in the thicker areas and across some of the corrugated areas.

Do the same with some Patina Mix'd Media Inx Reinker... adding a little more modelling paste if needed to blend colours together.

Spritz with some water and use the palette knife to blend the colours a little more...

Using a baby wipe, dab off some colour randomly to allow some of the white modelling paste to show through and then spritz with Clearsnap GingerAle Smooch Spritz.

Dry off with a heat gun, if the coat of modelling paste is thin it should dry quickly.  If you allowed a thicker coverage, pop aside for a few hours to dry through.

I've used similar technique on the Sprockets Chipboard, mixing in some modelling paste with the Inx layers to add some texture and grunginess.  I punched the Chipboard separately to the Cover, it's a bit chunky once glued together to feed into the punch.

I hope this inspires you to get a little messy!  Until next time, take care and be true to you!

Cherry Blossoms - Green Tara

I found this gorgeous photo while looking for backgrounds for my phone, all those cherry blossoms and birds... I had to scrap it!

I have a little album that I create with photos that call to me, usually nature ones... and I find Haiku Poems to add with them, love them!

I have used Green Tara's fabulous cherry blossoms, apple blossoms and gardenia's for this one, all in such delightful shades of pink.

I tied some bows to accent the flower 'bouquets'...

and used some of Green Tara's gorgeous ribbons, trims and lace which I overlayed to create some border details.

Thanks for stopping by, until next time take care of you!

Iddy Hat Box - Green Tara

When my hubby was working, he bought home a little brown 'hat box' for me to decorate, thinking I'd like it.  He's pretty clever because I sure did!  It actually started out as a container for industrial 'o-rings' and often the boxes are stained from oil inside, but this one was perfect.  I finally found just the right everything to get it made!

I dabbed white paint on the exposed areas and covered the top and around the outside with some gorgeous new papers from Glitz Design.

Underneath the rim of the lid I adhered some Green Tara lace Trim, and added some sweet butterflies flittering about.

I added a cluster of Green Tara flowers in matching colours.  One of the Cherry Blossoms I sprayed with watered down aqua paint to get just the shade I needed, then added a couple of big organza bows.

The inside edge of the lid was trimmed with some Loop Trim, which finishes the edge of nicely.

Thanks for visiting... until next time, take care of you!  Mis xo
